Kanako Murakami is the Silver medal winner at the 2013 Japanese national figure skating championships.  Kanako Murakami started her season with a bronze at the 2012 Skate Canada and finished 4th at her next event, the 2012 Cup of Russia.

Daisuke Takahashi is second at the 2013 Japanese Men’s Figure Skating Champion ships. With only 3 available spots on the Japanese Men’s world team and 6 strong competitors, Japan Nationals can be considered the most important competition for the men this season. Takahashi fell short in the short program, coming in second with more than 9 points behind Yuzuru Hanyu. Although Daisuke Takahashi came back and beat Hanyu for first in the long program, it was not enough to claim the champion title. Despite coming in 2nd, he has secured his spot for the 2013 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships held in Takahashi’s current hometown and the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships.

At the 2012-2013 Grand Prix Final, Daisuke Takahashi made history again as the first Japanese man to win a gold medal in the event, an addition to his previous accomplishment of being the first Japanese man to medal at the event in 2005.The 2012 Grand Prix Final took place in Sochi, Russia at the planned 2014 Winter Olympics rink. Takahashi placed first in the short program and third in the free skate and won his first GPF gold medal. He is also the first Japanese man ever to win a gold medal at the Grand Prix Final.

Daisuke Takahashi represented Japan at the 2006 Winter Olympics and at the 2010 Winter Olympics. His bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics was the first Olympic medal for Japan in the men’s singles event. He was also the first Asian man to win a World title at the 2010 World Championships, a two-time (2007, 2012) World silver medalist, a two-time (2008, 2011) Four Continents Champion, and a five-time (2006-2008, 2010, 2012) Japanese national champion.

Yuzuru Hanyu

Yuzuru Hanyu is the 2012/2013 Japan Figure Skating Champion. Yuzuru Hanyu (285.23 points) beat Daisuke Takahashi by only 4.83 points. Yuzuru Hanyu clearly dominated the short program but Daisuke had the better free style, yet on the end Yuzuru took home the title. Third place went to Takahito Mura with a total of 240.56 points.

Paul Bonifacio Parkinson is the 2013 Italian men’s figure skating champion. Paul Bonifacio Parkinson has achieved in 2012 a 11th place at the Nebelhorn Trophy, 9th at the US Senior Intl in Salt Lake City and 6th at the Golden Spin in Zagreb.

Carolina Kostner secures her 7th Italian national figure skating title. Carolina Kostner clearly dominated the 2013 Italian national figure skating championships in Milan and secured her 7th national figure skating title. Leading after the short program and even receiving a 10 from one judge clearly let the competition know that Carolina Kostner had he mind set to take this home.  After a near perfect free program and receiving 143.56 points there was no doubt whom will be the national champion for Italy.

Carolina Kostner, current world champion figure skater has kicked off the 2012 – 2013 season with the Golden Spin Trophy and the Italian National championship.  Carolina Kostner has stated the skating season with a perfect start, winning the Golden Spin in Zagreb. 1st place after the short and 1st place in the long program guaranteed Carolina Kostner the perfect 1st place. Carolina Kostner stated in July of 2012 that she will be skating competitively until the Olympics in 2014 in Sochi, Russia.
